Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
I love being a blogger because of the community! The support bloggers offer one another, whether its for something as small as fixing a coding issue, or something as big as giving friendly advice and comforting words during a blogging slump, this community is easily the biggest thing I missed about blogging. Friendly, enthusiastic and passionate people – what’s not to love?!
I love being a blogger because it’s a great outlet for my emotions. I’ve always been an opinionated person, and being able to share all those opinions on such a large scale, while sometimes terrifying, is also quite exhilarating!
I love being a blogger because it allows me to practice my writing skills. If I’m completely honest for a minute, I always dreamed of being a writer as a child. Now, while I don’t necessarily have the patience, dedication and passion for writing that I did as a child (let’s not even talk about the talent and creativity required!), I still enjoy writing. Blogging is a great way for me to write, to write often, and to practice a skill that, otherwise, might suffer from negligence.
I love being a blogger because I meet so many new people. While you might think this is the same thing as loving blogging because of the great community, you would be wrong! As a whole, the community is great – fantastic even! But as individuals, the people that make up this community are such tender and spirited souls that, often times, I find myself considering many of them friends, even though I haven’t met them in person.
I love being a blogger because I discover so many great books! Without recommendations from bloggy friends, without exposure to so many varied personalities, and without so many great blogs showcasing books worth my attention, I would never have even bothered with half of the books I’ve read over the past couple years, many of which I have loved!
I love being a blogger because it encourages me to try new things. Before blogging, I had no clue how to do any formatting in either HTML or CSS. Now, while I’m by no means an expert, I know enough to get by. The same goes for creating custom graphics – I’ve played with Photoshop so much since blogging, that there are some things I’m sure I could do in my sleep! But the best part is, there’s always more to learn!
I love being a blogger because I have something to be proud of. Blogging is such a time-consuming hobby (it’s a full-time job for some!) that it’s nice to be rewarded with that sense of accomplishment that comes with showing off your blog to new people.
I love being a blogger because it forces me out of my comfort zone. Chatting with an author on Twitter? Requesting an ARC from a publisher? Striking up conversation with random strangers on the internet? Putting my thoughts on a heated issue out there, for the world to see? These are things I NEVER would have dreamed of doing before blogging!
I love being a blogger because I love being in the bookish loop! Being on top of what books are scheduled to come out this year, knowing when Twitter events for my favourite authors are happening, getting to read books before they’re released to the general public. I love how connected you feel to the whole process when you’re a book blogger; it makes me feel really lucky.
And lastly, I love being a blogger because I love reading, and the two go hand in hand. I can’t think of a better way to share my love of reading than to spend a good chunk of my free time chatting/discussing books with like-minded folk!
