Mini Challenge #6: For the last mini-challenge of the event we are going to be having the Love-A-Thon Awards! Think of this as the Grammy’s, Oscars, and your high school yearbook’s senior bests, all mixed together and dipped in book-nerdishness!
Most Helpful Reviews
Renae from Respiring Thoughts is very analytical in her approach, and she lays out a books strengths and weaknesses without allowing how it made her feel to impact her critique.
Christina from A Reader of Fictions has a wide variety of review styles, from intelligent and witty to snarky and fun, and her reviews always touch on the things that I find matter to me as a reader.
Sam from Realm of Fiction not only has some of the most detailed and descriptive reviews I’ve ever read, but she manages to capture the essence of the story in every review!
Best Blog Design
I think these three blogs have similar design elements, which is probably why I think they’re all gorgeous. I love the earthy-tones all three have, but I think it’s the font treatment that really makes all three of these stand out!
Jennifer from Live to Read, Love to Read
Emily from Constellation Chronicles
Kelly from Effortlessly Reading
Best Discussion Posts
I love how Oh, Chrys has almost as many discussion posts as the 1st place blogger, and how often her discussions make me have to sit and think on my response. She’s always coming up with new and creative approaches to tired topics, which never ceases to amaze me!
I absolutely love Mel from The Daily Prophecy’s approach to discussions. I can’t exactly put my finger on it, but she’s so genuine and honest in her discussions, that even when I vehemently disagree with her, I find myself wanting to agree! She also makes a point to continue the discussion in her comments section, which is awesome!
By sheer number alone, I think I had to give this one to Ashley from Nose Graze! Not only does Ashley manage to come up with 2-3 discussion posts per week, but they’re all things that genuinely get me thinking! (If I can put out one discussion post per week, I consider myself successful). She’s not afraid to cover any and every topic, and at this rate, that’s something she’ll be able to claim by the end of the year!
Best Recurring Feature
The original category was “Best Weekly Feature” but two of these features don’t necessarily happen every week, so I made a slight adjustment to the category
I love that Jessi has made book blogging a little more personal by creating a weekly feature that asks us to share our non-bookish lives! Life of a Blogger is hosted by Jessi from Novel Heartbeat.
Combining her love of photography with her love of books, Judith has created a visually appealing feature that always surprises me with its creativity. Picture This is hosted by Judith from Paper Riot
I don’t know that I can articulate how much I love this feature! I love how perfectly the bags always match the books and, if I’m completely honest, I love how many cute bags I’m exposed to! Book Bags is hosted by Rachel from Hello, Chelly.
I thought about this one for a long time. I don’t know that I can name a blogger who isn’t friendly! So for this category, I figured I would highlight someone who I think contributes to this community in ways she might not even realize, with a seemingly endless supply of both optimism and enthusiasm to share whenever a fellow blogger is feeling down, or in a slump. She’s honest with her readers in a way that I find inspiring, and she always manages to put a positive spin on any situation.
